United Arab Emirates Launches New Rules for Low-Voltage Equipment
We would like to remind our subscribers that the following audio/video and IT/office equipment is subject to Low Voltage Equipment (LVE) Regulations in the United Arab Emirates:
Non-professional stand-alone audio products:
Radio
Record players
Disc players
MP3 players
Speaker systems
Amplifiers
Soundbars (Bluetooth or otherwise)
Other audio products
Non-professional stand-alone video playing and recording systems:
VCD, DVD, Blu-ray players
Digital still and video cameras
Game consoles
Projectors
Videoke/Karaoke multimedia systems
TV decoders and set-top boxes
Consumer series desktops and laptop computers, all-in-one PCs
Tablets and palm pilots
Desktop/computer monitors
Printers/scanners (i.e. inkjet, laser, etc.) including office printers, multi-function printers (MFP), label printers, portable or stand-alone
Non-professional routers, repeaters
Microphones
Touch drawing pads
Landline phones (corded/cordless)
External hard drives supplied with an external power supply (i.e. NAS – Network-attached storage, etc.)
All the above-mentioned equipment should meet the requirements of IEC 62368-1.
Currently, there are two valid versions of this standard: IEC 62368:2014 (2nd Edition) and IEC 62368:2018 (3d Edition) in the UAE till the end of the transition period.
However, the transition period ends on December 20, 2021. After that date, only the 3rd Edition of the IEC 62368 will remain valid. It means that ECAS/EQM certificates of conformity issued against IEC 62368-1:2014 requirements will become invalid despite the expiration date. Thus, to be able to circulate on the UAE market, the products must have ECAS/EQM certificates of conformity that show the compliance of the product with IEC 62368-1:2018 requirements.
With this regard, we strongly recommend you apply for the renewal of the UAE ECAS/EQM certificates as soon as possible.
