CRA Qatar Announces End of 3G Services and Ban on 2G/3G Phones

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) of Qatar has announced a significant step towards modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure. Effective immediately, CRA has banned the import of all mobile phones that support only 2G or 3G networks. Additionally, the authority has mandated that all mobile service providers in Qatar cease offering 3G services by the end of 2025.
This decision is part of CRA's broader strategy to enhance the quality and efficiency of telecommunications services in the country. By phasing out older technologies like 2G and 3G, CRA aims to optimize spectrum usage and allocate resources to more advanced networks such as 4G and 5G. These newer technologies offer faster speeds, lower latency, and greater capacity, providing a superior experience for consumers.
The move is also in line with Qatar's commitment to technological advancement and economic diversification. By investing in modern telecommunications infrastructure, the country can attract foreign investment, support innovation, and improve the quality of life for its residents.
