SASO reminds some categories of IECEE and IECEX products require national certification

SASO reminds that some categories of IECEE and IECEX products require national certification
The Saudi Arabian Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO) informs manufacturers and suppliers of electrotechnical devices and components (IECEE) as well as equipment and devices intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (IECEX) that some categories of IECEE and IECEX require the national recognition certificate.
Thus, to get access to the market of the KSA, manufacturers and suppliers of the following types of IECEE must have the national recognition certificate from November 1, 2021:
  • circuit breakers
  • cables for mobile phone chargers
  • electric shavers
  • desktop computers

Manufacturers and suppliers of the following types of IECEX must have the national recognition certificate from November 1, 2021:
  • junction boxes (electrical wire intersection) with cable connection points
  • control boxes with cable connection points
  • gas detectors and sensors
  • gas detection systems
  • electrical plugs and other connecting devices
  • electric pumps
  • linear (fixed) lighting

The SASO marked these types of IECEE and IECEX products as high-risk for consumers. By controlling this production, the SASO is aimed to protect the national market from low-quality devices or counterfeits and makes sure that imported products meet the standard requirements. It will help to reduce accidents that these products may cause and facilitate the entry of goods through customs ports without repeated examination and testing.
