Jordan market access for electric and R&TTE products

Jordan market access for electric and R&TTE products

Jordan has a free market economy and outward-oriented economic policies. The key role here belongs to the private sector. According to Worldometer, the current population of Jordan is 10,2967,098 and 91.5 % of the population is urban. Jordan's gross domestic product amounted to around 44.5 billion U.S. dollars.
In general, there are 3 types of approvals required for selling products on the market of Jordan:

  • Safety approval
  • Telecommunication approval
  • Energy Efficiency approval

Safety and energy efficiency approvals are issued by the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO). The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) is responsible for Telecommunication approval. All approvals are based on national requirements that are harmonized with the European normative or standards.
Thus, safety approval is required when the product is imported to the Kingdom of Jordan and is granted in the form of a certificate of conformity and an approval letter.

Energy efficiency approval is required for the power consumption products such as:

  • Air conditioners
  • Washing machines
  • Dishwashers
  • Clothes dryers
  • Refrigerators
  • Electric ovens
  • Television
  • Electric lamps

In addition to JSMO approval, the product must be labeled with the energy label.

Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment requires TRC approval to get access to the market. TRC approval is granted for 3 years.

Please, note that the Jordanian Telecommunications Regulatory Commission published the technical rules, standards, and specifications for telecommunications and terminal equipment on February 10, 2021. The requirements of these standards and specifications are mandatory for products subject to the type approval and for telecommunications equipment placed on the Jordan market. The technical rules specify requirements for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), radio frequency, environment, public health and safety, and restrictions on the use of hazardous substances (RoHS).

The specifications apply to the devices using the following technologies:

  • 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies
  • WLAN technology
  • RFID technology
  • PSTN technology
  • Short-range devices (SRD)
  • Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)
