Jordan Unveils Draft Ecodesign Regulation for Energy-Efficient Refrigerating Appliances

The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) has taken a significant step towards a greener future by informing the WTO about a draft Technical Regulation focused on ecodesign requirements for refrigerating appliances.
This Regulation is aimed at electric mains-operated refrigerating appliances with a total volume ranging from over 10 liters to 1500 liters. However, it's important to note that this Regulation does not extend its reach to:
  • Professional refrigerated storage cabinets and blast cabinets (excluding professional chest freezers)
  • Refrigerating appliances with a direct sales function
  • Mobile refrigerating appliances
  • Appliances where refrigerated food storage is not the primary function
The primary goal of this impactful move by JSMO is to establish ecodesign standards that will steer manufacturers towards producing energy-efficient appliances. The intended result is a win-win scenario where consumers not only save money on their energy bills but also contribute to the preservation of our environment.
Let's delve into a summarized view of the key aspects of the Regulation:
