Oman Allocates 26 GHz Band for 5G and 6G Trials

In a move aimed at fostering innovation and advancing the telecommunications sector, Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced on March 1st the allocation of portions of the 26 GHz frequency band.
This allocation is specifically designated for licensed mobile telecommunications companies operating in the Sultanate. The primary objective is to enable these companies to conduct experiments and explore potential investment opportunities, services, and applications utilizing fifth-generation (5G) and future sixth-generation (6G) technologies.
The TRA stated that this initiative is intended to encourage investment in the sector, keep pace with rapid technological advancements, and meet the growing market requirements for high-bandwidth applications and services.
To further incentivize these exploratory efforts, the TRA has announced that the licensed companies participating in these trials will be exempted from all spectrum fees during the experimental period.
This step underscores the TRA's commitment to developing Oman's digital infrastructure and preparing the ground for the deployment of advanced mobile technologies.
